A North Tyneside council lifeguard is looking to make a splash in the pop charts.

Anna Leigh, 20, from Cullercoats works at Tynemouth Pool part-time, but since the age of seven, has dreamed of being a musician.

And the drama student’s ambition is now closer to becoming a reality with the singer-songwriter recording her first music video.

She said: “As well as the video, I’ve had four songs recorded in the studio. It’s really exciting times at the moment and 2010 is shaping up to be a big year for me.”

The video “Let The Music Take You There” has already received over one thousand hits in its first few days on YouTube, with viewers from as far away as Spain and the United States.

She added: “It’s really important that we can drum-up plenty of interest in my music, and the video, as well as my Facebook and MySpace sites, will hopefully help me do this.”

Anna, who will be recording more songs next year, will also be sending her music to a number of record companies, as well as performing several festivals and events.

But despite her ambitions for a life in the music industry, the singer, who counts Van Morrison, Nina Simone and Michael Buble as her major influences, says she still enjoys her part-time job at Tynemouth Pool.

She said: “I still love my job. The best bit for me is meeting the customers and working in such a nice environment. My co-workers, who are also my friends, are fantastic and so supportive of my music.

“But despite loving my work at the pool, my dream is to one day be a professional singer – I want people to enjoy my music as much as I do singing it.”
